ATC Aerodrome Control Course Started for Bhutan ATCs

On 3rd June, Air Traffic Services training wing of SLAAA has started a Aerodrome Control course for a group of six air traffic controllers from Bhutan. This is a 3-month programme that reinforces SLAAA's position as a premier aviation academy in South Asia.

Speaking in the opening ceremony Vice chairperson of AASL, Ms. Awanthi Senarathne, welcomed Bhutan ATCs to AASL and to SLAAA and asked them to explore the country during their long wait in Sri Lanka. She mentioned that SLAAA is becoming a regional aviation training centre and thanked the SLAAA management for thier efforts.

Mr. Kishantha Nimalaratne, Head of the academy, emphasised that SLAAA is focusing more on providing training for outsiders while fully delivering the company requirements. He thanked Bhutan for keeping thier trust on SLAAA as thier training provider and will complete their expectations.


 
 
 


Diploma Programme Started

The 11th intake of "Diploma in Aviation Management" programme was started with a grand ceremony held at SLAAA with the participation of Vice chairperson of AASL, Ms. Awanthi Senarathne, other directors of AASL, Heads of Divisions and some distinguished guests. The programme will continue for 10 months period.

Students who complete this programme can join the the 2nd year of Bachelors of Aviation Management degree offered by Massey University, New Zealand.




Firefighting Awareness for kids completed

Yet another batch of students completed the Firefighting Awareness Holiday Programme for kids conducted by the Sri Lanka Airport & Aviation Academy on 08th April 2024. This is a one day programme conducted to get the Firefighting awareness to kids. For more information please click here.




Diploma Awards 2024

The 10th batch of students who successfully completed the Diploma in Aviation Management conducted by the Sri Lanka Airport & Aviation Academy were awarded their diplomas at a ceremony held at the AASL Directorate Boardroom at Bandaranaike International Airport, on 27th March 2024. Foundation Course Started

The long awaited "Foundation in Aviation Management" programme was started with a simple ceremony held at SLAAA on 31st January 2024. The programme will continue for 3 months period.

Students who complete this programme can join the Diploma in Aviation Management programme conducted by SLAAA and enter the pathway of joining the 2nd year of Bachelors of Aviation Management degree offered by Massey University, New Zealand.


 
 


Aviation Security Passing out ceremony 2024

The passing out ceremony of the 37th batch of male trainees and the 23rd batch of female trainees who followed the Aviation Security basic training at Sri Lanka Airport & Aviation Academy, together with supplementary army training at Sri Lanka Army Singha regimental headquarters, Ambepussa, was held today, 12th January 2024 at Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana. 111 male trainees and 24 female trainees who successfully completed the programme were awarded with the certificates and top performers were awarded merits.

Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Ports, Shipping & Aviation was the chief guest at the occasion. Eng. Athula Galketiya, Chairman of Airport Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL), Mr. P. A. Jayakantha, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, Mr. Shehan Sumanasekera and Capt. Milinda Ratnayake, the directors of AASL, heads of divisions of AASL, and other senior officials of AASL were present at the ceremony.









Mr. Hervé Touron visits SLAAA

Mr. Hervé Touron, Head of Training Assessments and Consultancy Unit of Global Aviation Training (GAT) at International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) visited Sri Lanka Airport & Aviatoin Academy on 09th March 2023, to complete the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS on-site assessment of the academy. With the assessment, SLAAA will receive the most prestigious TRAINAIR PLUS membership extension for another 3 year period. SLAAA is a TRAINAIR PLUS full member since 2014. ICAO GAT office assess each of their member training institutions once in 3 years time to check and verify the ability of the course delivery.
This is the second time Mr. Touron visiting SLAAA and was delighted to be there again. Eng. Athula Seneviratne, Head of Civil Aviation Training and head of the SLAAA, together with the senior members of the CATD staff welcomed Mr. Touron. He will complete the on-site assessment on 10th and leave for ICAO GAT office, Canada.




ILS Maintenance Course for ATSEP (2nd batch) Completed

The Instrument Landing System (ILS) Maintenance course - Indra NORMARC 7000B, conducted for the second time for another batch of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) has been completed successfully on 24th February 2023. This was conducted by the Electronics Engineering Training Wing of the Sri Lanka Airport & Aviation Academy
This course is based on the manufacturer's training manual and created following the ICAO Manual for ATSEP CBT (DOC.10057) and is of 5 weeks duration. It is one of the continuous professional development training in the career of an ATSEP and coveres both theoratical and practical areas in maintenaning ILS equipment.
The trained personnel were deployed at stations of the Electronics & Air Navigation Enginering Division of AASL for OJT.




Aviation for Youngsters programme Completed

Giving an opportunity for the young aviation enthusiast to learn about the world's most fascinating industry, aviation, the SLAAA conducted the Aviation for Youngsters programme at Ratmalana last week. This was a 5-day programme conducted in 3 batches and around 75 young learners participated and enjoyed their learning experience.
The lectures and site visits were conducted by senior SLAAA academic staff, providing the kids with current, in-depth knowledge. The programme consists of classroom sessions to give basics of Aircraft Operation, Hands-on exposure at the Air Traffic Control Tower Simulator and a visit to Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana.
