Three of the students who successfully completed the Diploma in Aviation Management programme
conducted by the Sri Lanka Airport & Aviation Academy were awarded their diplomas in a
ceremony held at the AASL Directorate Boardroom where Eng. Athula Galketiya, the Chairman of AASL
and Ms. Awanthi Senarathne, the Vice Chairman of AASL gracing the occasion, on 27
th March 2024.
All three students have successfully completed the Diploma programme and became eligible to join
the Massey University, New Zealand, for reading the
Bachelors of Aviation Management degree.
Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited signed an agreement of collaboration
in year 2021, with Massey University of New Zealand, offering lateral entry to Bachelors of Aviation
Management degree for students who successfully complete the Diploma in Aviation Management programme
conducted by the Sri Lanka Airport & Aviation Academy. This collaborative arrangement enables the
students to
join the second year of the Massey's Bachelor of Aviation Management degree
program directly upon completion of the Diploma at SLAAA. In effect,the diploma program of the SLAAA is
treated as being equivalent to the first two semesters of the degree programme.
During his speech Chairman Eng Athula Galketiya thanked the students and their parents in keeping their
trust in SLAAA for higher education and stated that the students should continue their education while getting
experience also, in the field of aviation. He further said that it was a worthy expense as the return of the
same would be very fruitful.
Vice Chairman, Ms. Awanthi Senarathne emphasized the need of these kind of educated aviators in the field.
She mentioned that most of the time people join aviation with a very little knowledge on the industry. But
with Diploma courses of this nature, we can groom students and connect them with aviation industry effectively.
Chairman garlanded each diploma recipient with the pendant symbolizing the award of the diploma
and Vice Chairman gave away the certificates.
Three merit awards in shape of Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, were also made to students
with outstanding performance.
The parents of the students together with staff of the SLAAA participated the ceremony.
The next batch of the diploma programme is to be enrolled in the near future. For more details
